Minister of Environment and Energy of Maldives Thoriq Ibrahim has participated at the High Level Event on Partnering for Sustainable Development Goals, Implementation, Financing and Monitoring: Sharing Innovations through South-South and Triangular Cooperation, jointly organised by Bangladesh and United Nations Office on South-South Cooperation.
Speaking at the event, the Minister highlighted some the challenges faced by the Maldives since graduation from Least Developed Countries (LDC) in 2011. Minister Thoriq emphasised that the government of Maldives prioritizes resilient infrastructure, improving service delivery to vulnerable populations and investing in energy efficiency and renewables. He noted the important role of regional support and cooperation for the successful achievement of many of these goals.
Minister Thoriq said that infrastructure development in the country has received tremendous support from our southern partners and has only been possible through concessional financing from friendly nations in the region.
