The new Resident Ambassador of China, Zhang Lizhong has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim. During the call, held at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and wished him success during his tenure.
Minister Asim reiterated the importance attached by the Maldives to its relations with China and thanked the Ambassador for the valuable support extended by the Government of China to the socio-economic development of the Maldives. Both the Minister and the Ambassador discussed international and regional issues of mutual interest and agreed to coordinate closely on such issues, especially within the United Nations.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and China. Ambassador Zhang Lizhong is the third Resident Ambassador from China to Maldives.
