Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is currently visiting Turkey on an official visit, called on Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, in Ankara.
At the meeting, both ministers discussed a wide range of issues including trade, commerce, tourism and human resource development, aimed at further enhancing the strong bonds of friendship and understanding that exists between the two countries. Minister Asim expressed appreciation for Turkey’s continued assistance in training Maldivian Government officials, especially the training programmes conducted for the Maldives Police Service.
The two Ministers also discussed important multilateral issues of mutual concern and agreed to cooperate more closely in the international fora, especially at the United Nations and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Minister Asim also took the opportunity to thank Turkey for the leading and increasingly important role being played by Turkey in the international arena, particularly for its leadership on the challenging issues facing the Muslim world today.
The Maldives and Turkey has a long history of close relations and this year marked the 38th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
