Women are liberal In Maldives: Pakistan Ambassador

Ambassador of Pakistan to Maldives Vice Admiral (Retired) Syed Khawar Ali Shah said that Maldivian women are liberal compared to the other nations in this region. Speaking on PSM News' talk show "Talk Maldives", the Ambassador of Pakistan to Maldives Vice Admiral (Retired) Syed Khawar Ali Shah highlighted that the Maldivian constitution provides fair rights for women in accordance with democratic values.

"One of the things I keep on telling my friends is that Maldives is a place to learn. You have very nice version of Islam where women are liberal and also women are empowered. They work in offices." said Vice Admiral (Retired) Syed Khawar Ali Shah in the PSM's "Talk Maldives". 

He also highlighted the existing Islamic practices in Maldives, which provide ways in which women can work on par with men to achieve greater heights, which is not the scenario in most countries in this region.

“I appreciate the work done by the current government does to form a hostile maritime environment and at the same time efforts done to bring Maldives from poor country to developing country.” said Vice Admiral (Retired) Syed Khawar Ali Shah in the PSM's "Talk Maldives".

The Ambassador who has been in Maldives for the past one and a half year highlighted the progress Maldives has achieved.He also highlighted the similarity of both Pakistan and Maldives in aspects such as culture and language. He said that under President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's presidency, the ties between Maldives and Pakistan have been extended in the fields of education and health He said that in the near future efforts would be undertaken to strengthen trade ties between the two countries.
