PSM launches 24 hour channel for news and current affairs

Public Service Media (PSM) launches the first ever round the clock television channel dedicated to news and current affairs, in the Maldives. One of the main objectives to dedicating a 24 hour channel for news and current affairs is to prevent the dissemination of false news which could incite discord in the community.

The news channel was officially inaugurated by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, in a special function held at the President's Office. The channel, inaugurated to coincide with World Press Freedom Day, is the one and only news and current affairs channel broadcast in HD quality. This is a huge leap by PSM and an important addition to PSM's efforts to disseminate news and information about events taking place across the country. This has also provided a better platform for public to voice their opinions and serves as a window through which PSM can disseminate more timely news.  Since the establishment of PSM, the state media has made revolutionary progress in the sector. While services, which were never before provided by the state media, have now been introduced, existing services have been improved significantly. PSM has been working tirelessly to ensure that its products get the approval of the masses.
