Maldivian MVR 1000 bank note has been selected amongst the runner-ups of the "Bank Note of the Year Award."
The new MVR 1000 bank note were released as part of the new "Ran Dhihafaheh" series released in 2016. The International Bank Note Society (IBNS) announced the Bank Note of the Year Award with Swiss National Bank receiving the prestigious "Bank Note of the Year Award" for 2016. The Swiss 50 Franc hybrid note won the award in a tight voting held amongst IBNS members while MVR 1000 note of Maldivian “Ran Dhihafaheh” with its tortoise/whale shark design and Argentina 500 Peso jaguar, and the Royal Bank of Scotland's 5 Pound first polymer note followed closely as runner-ups.
Maldives MVR 1,000 note from the “Ran Dhihafaheh” note series was nominated for the IBNS Banknote of the Year 2016 Award last year. This note was nominated by IBNS life member Christof Zellweger. This Note Series was designed by Maldivian artist, Abdulla Nashaath.
The IBNS Banknote of the Year award is an initiative of the IBNS to recognize an exceptional banknote issued each year. Once nominations have closed, the winner will be decided by a vote of the IBNS, who will consider the artistic merit, design, use of colour, contrast, balance, and security features of each nomination. The winner will be announced at the first IBNS Board meeting of the year.
The International Bank Note Society (IBNS) was founded in 1961. It operates as a non-profit educational organization and in furtherance of such purpose, its objectives are to promote, stimulate, and advance the study and knowledge of worldwide banknotes and paper currencies and all matters related thereto along educational, scientific and historical lines. Currently the IBNS has over 2,000 members in more than 90 countries.
