Foreign Minister meets Prime Minister of Pakistan

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim has paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

During the call, held at the Prime Minister's Secretariat, the Foreign conveyed warm greetings from President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, to the Prime Minister, and also thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome extended by the Government of Pakistan to him and his delegation. Minister Asim hand-delivered a letter from President Yameen and expressed appreciation to the Government of Pakistan, for its continued support to the Maldives. Dr. Asim expressed hope to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reiterated assurance of Pakistan's support to the Maldives. He said that Pakistan ardently desires to promote peace and cooperation in South Asia for which security and stability are pre-requisites. Nawaz Sharif added that Pakistan attaches great importance to the South Asian Association for Regional Corporation (SAARC) and wishes to see it as a vibrant regional organization and is committed to the principles and objectives of the SAARC Charter.

Minister Asim was accompanied by Ambassador of Maldives to Pakistan, Ahmed Saleem, Additional Secretary, Ibrahim Shaheeb, Director, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aminath Shabeena.
