Ambassador Shaan meets Maldivian students in Bangladesh

Ambassador-designate of Maldives to Bangladesh, Aishath Shaan Shakir on Monday met with the Maldivian students who are facing registration issues at the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC), Bangladesh.

During the meeting, Ambassador Shaan Shakir briefed the students on the steps taken by the Government to resolve the issue and assured them that the Government will continue to work with the Bangladesh authorities to find a solution at the earliest.

“The Government of Maldives has raised the issue of registration of 28 Maldivian students with the Government of Bangladesh through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, and requested for intervention in bringing a speedy solution to the matter,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. “The Embassy of Maldives in Dhaka has written to the Ministry of Health of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) to resolve the issue. The Embassy of Maldives is constantly in touch with the authorities to resolve the issue. In addition, the Embassy has spoken to Vice Chancellor of the USTC and officially written to them to resolve the issue without further delay,” it further said.

The USTC is a private university which has had registration issues with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) in the past. There are many international students who are enrolled in the university facing same issues, according to the statement.

“The Government of Maldives will continue to work with the concerned authorities of Bangladesh in order to resolve the registration issue,” the statement said.
