Foreign Minister Asim meets Malaysian counterpart

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim has met with his Malaysian counterpart, Anifah Aman on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers on the Situation of Rohingya Muslim Minority in Myanmar, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

During the meeting, Minister Asim congratulated the Malaysian Government for hosting the important session on the situation of Rohingya Muslim minority.

Minister Asim expressed that the Maldives attaches great importance to its relations with Malaysia, and emphasised with appreciation, on the continued cooperation in the areas of human resource development, trade and commerce. Additionally, Minister Asim briefed Foreign Minister Anifah about the prospective projects ‎for investments in the Maldives. ‎

Minister Anifah underscored that the Maldives has always been close to Malaysia’s heart, being Muslim brothers with common interest and common laws. Minister Anifah further expressed assurances that the Maldivians will always have a ‘second home’ in Malaysia.

At the meeting Foreign Ministers also expressed hope and confidence in the continued support and engagement between the Maldives and Malaysia.

Foreign Minister Asim was joined at the meeting by Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, Ambassador of Maldives to Malaysia, Ghaniya Abdul Ghafoor, Deputy Ambassador of Maldives to Malaysia, and Moomina Ibrahim, Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
