Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim has met with the Secretary General of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef Ahmed Al Othaimeen.
At the meeting held Thursday evening on the sidelines of the OIC Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers on the Situation of Rohingya Muslim Minority in Myanmar, Minister Asim and the Secretary General discussed the key challenges faced by OIC member states and ways to resolve these issues.
Minister Asim congratulated Dr. Othaimeen on his recent appointment as the Secretary General and thanked the OIC for convening this important meeting which was concluded successfully. The Minister further conveyed the Government’s full commitment to working with the OIC and expressed confidence that the Maldives will continue to receive the same level of support, engagement and assistance from the OIC in the future.
The OIC Secretary General thanked the Minister for the sentiments and expressed his appreciation to the Government of Maldives’ active role in critical issues facing the Muslims around the globe.
Foreign Minister Asim was joined at the meeting by Ibrahim Shaheeb, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, Ambassador of Maldives to Malaysia, Ghaniya Abdul Ghafoor, Deputy Ambassador of Maldives to Malaysia, and Moomina Ibrahim, Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
