Military court bill sent to AG Office for review: Shareef

Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar has said a bill on establishing the country’s first military court has been drafted and forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office for review.

He revealed it on Thursday in a special interview with PSM coinciding with the Government’s 3-year anniversary.

Minister Adam Shareef said the work to establish the military court is progressing swiftly, and the bill will soon be sent to Parliament for consideration.

In the interview, he also highlighted the Government’s efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism, and commended the work done by the National Counterterrorism Centre.  

The Defence Minister further noted the Maldives National Defence Force, MNDF’s achievements in the past three years in terms of training officers and enhancing its capabilities.  

He also spoke about the efforts being made to secure training opportunities for MNDF officers.
