Gov’t. launches nat’l. chemical profile and database

The government launches a national chemical profile and a national chemical management database.

The National Chemical Profile was officially launched by Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim while Minister of Defence and National Security, Adam Shareef unveiled the National Chemical Management Database at a function held at Champa Central Hotel in Male’ City on Monday.

The chemical profile report was compiled based on data collected by relevant authorities regarding imported chemicals, the Ministry said.

The report contains information regarding import, consumption, storing, moving, elimination methods of chemicals and standards used, it added.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Environment and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim highlighted the importance of managing chemicals in Maldives and briefed on the information included in the National Chemical Profile.

According to the Ministryl, the National Chemical Profile will help manage and standardise the use and elimination of chemicals in Maldives and also to protect the environment from the damage caused by waste and chemicals.

The National Chemical Profile is the first report that includes information of different types of chemicals that are imported into the Maldives.
