President meets Ukulhas council to discuss development priorities

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the Ukulhas Island Council, the Women's Development Committee (WDC), and representatives of several local institutions to discuss the island's key development priorities.

The meeting was held at the Ukulhas Convention Centre.

During the meeting, council members highlighted several priority issues, including the need for additional housing units to address the island's housing shortage and further land reclamation by connecting existing reclaimed areas. They also requested the provision of water, sewerage and electricity services to already reclaimed land, as well as the construction of roads in those areas.

The council also raised difficulties in securing land required for the planned expansion of the island's cemetery.

In addition, the council requested that responsibility for waste management on the island be transferred to WAMCO and called for arrangements to ensure access to fuel at affordable prices.

President Muizzu said the concerns raised by the council would be reviewed. Ministers attending the meeting also shared updates on ongoing development projects on the island and provided information on their current progress.
