A run was held on Monday as part of this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
The run, titled ‘Minivan Run’, was organised by the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage and WeRun Maldives. The 5-kilometre event held in Hulhumale’ Phase II drew a large turnout.
Speaking at the event, Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Heena Waleed said the run aimed to promote unity and friendship among the public while providing an opportunity for people to spend time together in a positive environment. She said it also aims to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.
The minister also encouraged people who are unable to run to take part by walking, emphasising that physical activity is beneficial for everyone.
Participants from all age groups joined the event. Many participants said they enjoyed spending time with family and friends and welcomed organising similar activities in future national celebrations.
All participants received a special badge after completing the run. WeRun Maldives said it plans to expand the run to other cities next year.
