Cabinet approves measures to speed up gov’t projects, improve public services

The Cabinet has approved a series of special measures to strengthen public service delivery and ensure government projects are completed within the prescribed timelines.

The decisions were made during the Cabinet meeting held on 28 June.

Among the measures, the Cabinet resolved to fully operationalise the government's Dhuveli portal by the end of the week. The portal is to monitor all government projects and activities, together with the Public Investment Management System (PIMS) developed by the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises. Thereafter, both platforms will be updated continuously to enable real-time monitoring of project implementation.

To improve project delivery, the Cabinet also approved the establishment of a dedicated team within the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises to identify and resolve issues affecting projects undertaken by ministries and State-owned Enterprises. In addition, every ministry will establish a dedicated unit to oversee the day-to-day monitoring and progress of its projects.

The Cabinet further resolved that the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises, and contractors responsible for infrastructure projects will undertake coordinated efforts to ensure projects are completed within their scheduled timeframes.

In addition, the Cabinet directed that all necessary measures be prioritised to establish the nationwide Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry network and commence services before the end of January 2027.

The Cabinet also decided that approvals for the establishment of chemical storage facilities across the islands will only be granted for sites located at a safe distance from residential areas, in line with the safety standards applied in Male’. The decision follows recent hazardous incidents involving chemical storage facilities and is intended to enhance public safety nationwide.
