Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development has opened applications for the June intake for A-Level studies in government schools.
According to the ministry, applications will remain open until 28 May. Students who have completed O-Level studies and are eligible for higher secondary education can apply for A-Level admission.
A-level studies at government schools are open to students aged 16 and below as of end of 2025. However, students who completed Grade 10 through the school system and are eligible for Grade 11 can still enrol even if they exceed the age limit, provided that they have not turned 18.
Admission requirements are based on SSC, GCE O-Level, IGCSE and BTEC examination results, with students who passed between three and five subjects eligible for A-Level studies. Students under the Individual Curriculum Plan who have obtained at least a “C” grade in two subjects are also eligible.
The Education Ministry said schools will begin informing parents about placements from 25 May. Registration details will be sent to parents by the school from where the student receives placement.
The government has launched a pilot A level programme in 23 schools in islands outside Male’ to increase the number of students studying in Grades 11 and 12. Since the commencement of the programme, the number of students studying A-Level in government schools has increased by 77 percent compared to the previous year.
