Over 41,000 people vote in first two hours of polling

More than 41,000 citizens cast their ballots by mid-morning on Saturday as the Maldives commenced three concurrent polls, marking a significant day of civic participation across the country.

Polling stations opened their doors at 8:00 a.m. for the Local Council elections, the Women's Development Committee elections, and a public referendum. Although a small number of centres experienced minor initial delays, the vast majority of stations established throughout the nation successfully began operations on schedule, the Elections Commission of Maldives reported.

Official statistics detailed a disciplined early engagement from the electorate. By 10:00 a.m., exactly 41,162 individuals had exercised their right to vote, according to commission data. This morning cohort was comprised of 24,996 men and 16,166 women, reflecting a steady momentum as the day progressed.

The scale of the operation is designed to accommodate a total eligible voting population of 294,876. To ensure an efficient and accessible process, authorities have deployed 588 ballot boxes across the country’s various regions. Polling is scheduled to proceed without interruption until 4:00 p.m. today, officials said.
