President casts ballot in local elections and referendum

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has cast his vote in the ongoing local council elections and Women’s Development Committee elections, alongside a referendum to gauge public opinion on holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously.

The President cast his ballot at the designated polling station for the Maafannu South constituency, located at Thaajuddeen School.

Speaking to the media after voting, President Dr Muizzu emphasised that voting is a constitutional right afforded to every citizen and urged all eligible voters to exercise this right.

Subsequently, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has cast her vote in in the ongoing elections as well. The First Lady cast her ballot at the polling station designated for the Machangolhi North constituency, located at Aminiya School.

Polling commenced at 8:00 am today and is scheduled to continue until 4:00 pm. The Elections Commission has established 588 polling stations across the Maldives. Each voter is provided with three ballot papers, which must be cast into their respective designated boxes. A total of 294,937 eligible voters is registered to participate in today's elections. The Elections Commission has ensured that streamlined arrangements are in place.
