Maldives National Meteorological Service has said a 6.1 magnitude earthquake has struck Indonesia.
According to the agency, the quake occurred in northern Sumatra at 09:56am local time. The epicentre was located approximately 2,581 kilometres from Malé.
Authorities confirmed that the tremor was recorded near northern Sumatra, Indonesia, and at a considerable distance from the Maldivian capital.
No immediate impact on the Maldives has been reported. Officials continue to monitor the situation.
