MATATO calls for unity among stakeholders amid rising Middle East tensions

The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has called for unity, coordination, and proactive
Engagement among all stakeholders amid rising tensions in Middle East.

In a statement, MATATO said that it recognises the seriousness of the situation unfolding in the Middle East and its potential economic consequences.

Tourism is the backbone of the Maldivian economy, supporting thousands of jobs across resorts, guesthouses, transport services and related industries. Any sustained disruption to international flights can have immediate ripple effects across the sector.

MATATO said it stands together with the people of the Maldives, the government and all tourism stakeholders during what it described as a period of uncertainty. The association stressed that unity, coordination and proactive engagement are essential to safeguard the industry and maintain international confidence in the Maldives as a trusted destination.

MATATO noted that the country has previously navigated global crises, including periods of economic instability and travel restrictions, through collective action and close cooperation between public authorities and private operators. While the full extent of the current disruptions remains unclear, MATATO expressed confidence that resilience and strong collaboration would help the Maldives overcome the challenge and ensure the continued strength of its tourism industry.
