The 50th anniversary of Air India’s operations in the Maldives has been celebrated. The milestone was marked at a special ceremony held at the Maldives’ main international airport, Velana International Airport.
Air India was the first Indian airline to begin international flights to the Maldives. The airline first launched flights to the Maldives on 21 February 1976.
To mark the occasion, an Air India flight that landed at VIA received a water salute upon arrival, along with a warm reception. The flight carried 139 passengers, all of whom were welcomed with roses and cookies. The ceremony was organised by Velana International Airport, highlighting the longstanding relationship between Air India and the Maldives.
