MPL announces plan to expand Malé commercial harbour

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) on Sunday announced plan to expand Malé commercial harbour.

Chief Executive Officer of MPL Mohamed Junaid said they were planning to reclaim land to expand the west side jetty of the harbour, and the proposal had now been submitted to the Economic and Youth Council for approval.

He said the Economic and Youth Council had officially requested MPL to submit related surveys and detail designs of the expansion project. 

Junaid also said the project would ease space constraints at the harbour which handles an average of 250 containers on a daily basis.
