Eligible Hiyaa and Veshifahi applicants without flats invited to reapply

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has announced that individuals previously listed as beneficiaries under the Hiyaa and Veshifahi housing schemes but who did not receive flats can now reapply by submitting alternative documentation.

The Ministry stated that applicants who do not possess formal flat allocation documents may still be considered eligible if they can provide other official proof confirming their inclusion in the beneficiary list. Acceptable documents include published beneficiary lists, official letters, or any document issued by a relevant government authority verifying their entitlement under either housing project.

The Hiyaa Housing Project, launched in 2017, and the Veshifahi Housing Scheme, introduced in 2010 to support residents of Malé, have faced implementation challenges over the years. As a result, around 160 eligible individuals did not receive housing units, while several others listed under various Hiyaa categories also missed out.

Acknowledging these gaps, the government has incorporated this group into its broader “Housing for All” policy framework. A total of 500 flats have been allocated specifically for individuals who were officially listed as beneficiaries but did not receive their homes.

The Ministry further clarified that even in cases where registration documents or formal agreements are unavailable, applicants may still qualify by providing verifiable evidence of their inclusion in official lists.

The deadline to submit applications under this special category is 14 April.
