President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has attended the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh’s new Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, in Dhaka, Bangladesh
The ceremony took place at the National Parliament, where Bangladesh’s President, Mohammed Shahabuddin, administered the oath of office to Tarique Rahman and members of his new cabinet.
Leaders and representatives from neighbouring and friendly countries were also present at the event. Following the ceremony, President Muizzu held a meeting with Prime Minister Rahman to discuss matters of mutual interest.
President Muizzu congratulated Prime Minister Rahman and his party on their victory. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening its long-standing ties with Bangladesh and said his government looked forward to working closely with the new administration.
Prime Minister Rahman thanked the Maldivian leader for attending the ceremony.
According to officials, the two leaders discussed ways to expand cooperation in trade and investment, healthcare, environmental protection, higher education and air connectivity.
Bangladesh held its 13th parliamentary elections on 12 February. Rahman, who serves as chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led his party to a decisive victory.
President Muizzu is visiting Bangladesh at the invitation of the government to attend the official proceedings.
