President pledges support for inclusive education and disability services

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening inclusive education and support services for children with autism and other disabilities, following discussions with parents and advocates.

The President met parents from the Maldives Autism Support and Neuro-Inclusion Unity at the President’s Office. During the meeting, parents highlighted key concerns related to the education, wellbeing, and long-term opportunities for children with disabilities.

They emphasised the need to enhance inclusive education frameworks in schools, expand access to vocational training, and address ongoing challenges in obtaining essential therapy services. Parents also proposed facilitating Quran teaching for students with disabilities within schools, strengthening existing therapy services, and establishing a specialised government centre to provide integrated therapy, education, and vocational skills training.

In addition, parents called for a review of the current composition of the Disability Council to ensure broader representation and effectiveness.

President Muizzu assured those present that the concerns and proposals raised would be given due priority and reiterated his commitment to working towards timely and effective solutions in collaboration with relevant authorities.
