Shore protection works accelerates in Gan

As part of a government environmental protection efforts, revetment construction has been now completed in Gan, Laamu atoll by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to under its shore protection project.
MTCC in a post on social media, revealed that revetment construction has now been completed, and that groyne profiling and back filling works are currently ongoing.

As part of this initiative, 30 metres of revetment, 260 meters of groyne are set to be established with 10,007 cubic meters of a sand added to the shoreline, protecting the North of Gan harbour from erosion.

The government is carrying out several projects targeted at protecting the shorelines throughout the Maldives, with USD 3.4 million invested in this initiative.

Gan marks the largest inhabited island in Laamu atoll, with many development projects presently underway, in areas such as education, health, environment and essential services.

The development initiatives undertaken by the government along with the island’s natural beauty attracts many visitors to Gan during holiday season.
