The Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Belgium, Geela Ali reiterated the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening engagement among the member states of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). The Ambassador made the comments at the 120th session of the Council of Ministers of the OACPS.
The meeting took place from 12-14 December 2025 in Brussels, Belgium.
During the session, Ambassador Geela Ali commended on the progress made by the organisation under the leadership of the Secretary General, Moussa Salef-Batraki, in areas of restructuring the secretariat, enhancing trade, and ensuring sustainable development. Moreover, she reiterated the commitment of the Maldives government to strengthening engagement and guarantee inclusive and sustainable development to the member states of the organisation.
The OACPS, comprising of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, was established in 1975 under the “Georgetown Agreement”. The Maldives became a full member of the OACPS on 9 December 2022 and has been collaborating with members of the OACPS and the European Union to address global challenges.
