The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has released new figures highlighting its central role in national infrastructure development, reporting the completion of 50 projects over the past two years while maintaining an active portfolio of 219 ongoing initiatives across the country. MTCC data show the scale of current operations is geographically extensive, with projects under way on 124 islands across multiple regions of the country.
MTCC stated that its recent priorities have centred on maritime and land development. Of the 50 projects concluded, the largest share involved land reclamation and coastal protection, with 14 completed in this category. Harbour development also featured prominently, with 10 harbour construction projects finalised during the same period.
The remaining 26 projects encompassed a broad spectrum of civil works. These included three building construction projects, four road construction projects and three airport development initiatives. The company also delivered four projects involving football and futsal fields, along with two jetty construction projects.
Specialised needs were addressed as well. MTCC completed a police post and a standalone commercial port, while other initiatives included one outdoor gym, one survey and structural assessment project, two consultancy projects and four categorised as miscellaneous. The company has a record of delivering construction projects vital to the country’s infrastructure in previous years and continues to advance a wide array of development schemes nationwide.
