Maldives Engages in Key Regional Security Talks at NSA-Level Conclave

The Maldives has participated in the seventh National Security Advisor-level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave on 20 November 2025 in New Delhi, India, joining regions partners to strengthen cooperation in numerous areas.

The meeting took place at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan and was opened by the Indian Prime Minister’s National Security Advisor, Mr Ajit Doval KC. The Maldivian delegation was led by the National Security Advisor, Ibrahim Latheef DC (retd.), Lt Col (retd.), with Deputy National Security Advisor Hamid Shafeeg MG (retd.) and the High Commissioner of the Maldives to India, Aishath Azeema.

In addition to the member states of the Conclave, India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and the Maldives, the former observer states, Bangladesh and Seychelles, also participated and were inducted as official members. Malaysia also participated in the meeting as a guest.

The Colombo Security Conclave aims to address international threats and challenges collectively, ensuring security and cooperation across the Indian Ocean region.

Under the conclave, the member states have identified pillars of cooperation, which are:

1. Maritime Security and Safety
2. Counterterrorism and Radicalisation
3. Combatting Trafficking and Transnational Organised Crime
4. Cybersecurity and the Protection of Critical Infrastructures
5. Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster relief

Prior to the seventh NSA-level meeting, the Indian National Security Advisor met with the Maldivian delegation to discuss possibilities for bilateral security cooperation and capacity building.
