The Maumoon Foundation has restarted its higher education scholarship programme by awarding a comprehensive grant to Hawwa Ruhshana, a student at the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM).
The scholarship—which covers tuition fees, a monthly stipend, and financial incentives to attend academic conferences—was formally presented to Ruhshana during a ceremony held at the IUM campus.
Speaking at the event, IUM’s Vice Chancelor Ali Zahir highlighted the foundation's dedication to assisting the university in various capacities. He noted the rigorous selection process, confirming that Hawwa Ruhshana was chosen from a pool of 14 applicants who responded to the scholarship announcement.
Ahmed Faris Maumoon, Vice Chairman of the Maumoon Foundation, affirmed the importance of resuming these educational initiatives after a long hiatus.
"After a long break in this programme, we have now awarded a scholarship for a new higher education programme. We have resumed our scholarship programme and we are working to provide more opportunities," he stated.
Faris, reflected on the 30 scholarships offered to students by the foundation in the past, while also mentioning the foundation's concurrent efforts to increase the publication of academic and religious books.
The Maumoon Foundation, established on January 26, 2010, by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, aims primarily to increase religious awareness among the public and provide crucial higher education opportunities to the nation’s youth.
