Application deadline for Fuvahmulah housing units extended

Application deadline has been extended for housing units developed in Fuvahmulah under the government’s social housing scheme.

The initial deadline expired on August 18, but Fuvahmulah Atoll Council said Saturday that it has now been extended to September 8.

The council said it decided to extend the application deadline to allow as many people to submit applications as over a thousand forms had been issued.

Housing units would be awarded to recipients after evaluations by the Housing Ministry, and in line with policies drawn up by the Ministry, it said.

A total of 200 housing units are being developed in Fuvahmulah under the government’s social housing scheme.

Out of this, 150 are designated for residents of Fuvahmulah, while 20 are allocated for people wishing to migrate to the island.

The remaining would be sold through open bidding.

According to the Housing Ministry, the housing units are expected to be handed to recipients by the end of the year.
