Parliament Approves President's Nominees for National Integrity Commission

The Parliament on Monday unanimously endorsed President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's nominations for the National Integrity Commission (NIC).

The approval follows a thorough review and recommendation by the Parliamentary Independent Institutions Committee, which found all four candidates to be highly qualified for the crucial role.

The President had put forward the names of Shuaib Abdul Rahman, Shifaz Ali, Ali Mohammed Manik, and Fathimath Shareef for appointment to the commission. These individuals underwent interviews and assessments by the Independent Institutions Committee, which subsequently awarded each candidate marks exceeding 75 percent, signaling their suitability for the positions.

The endorsements come as the terms of four current members of the five-member NIC are set to expire on 26 October. The President's office noted that the nominated candidates were selected from a pool of applicants who responded to a public call for nominations.

The NIC plays a vital role in strengthening law enforcement agencies across the Maldives. Its mandate includes establishing comprehensive procedures for handling complaints involving these agencies and overseeing the implementation of actions related to such matters.
