Defence Ministry, IMCTC Conclude ‘Peace Journalist’ Training to Promote Tolerance

The "Peace Journalist" training programme, aimed at preventing the spread of hate speech and extremist narratives, has concluded successfully.

The programme, conducted for media professionals, was a collaboration between Ministry of Defence and the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC). According to IMCTC, the main objective of the programme was to strengthen the role of the media in maintaining moderation and fostering a spirit of tolerance.

The closing ceremony of the Peace Journalist programme was graced by State Minister for Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, Ali Shammaan.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the Peace Journalist programme sought to raise awareness of the media’s crucial role in combating extremist rhetoric that threatens social stability and security. It also aimed to empower journalists to serve as advocates for peace and friendship.

Held from 6 to 9 October, the programme equipped participants with modern media tools and essential skills and knowledge needed to create content that promotes peace and tolerance.

The training was attended by 28 participants from various media agencies, all of whom received certificates of completion at the closing ceremony.

Speaking to PSM News, participants said they gained valuable knowledge from the programme, including skills to prevent the spread of various false information on social media.
