Finance Ministry Pays USD 24.6 Million of USD 500 Million Sukuk

The Ministry of Finance and Planning has paid USD 24.6 million from the USD 500 million sukuk issued by the previous government, for the latest payment due this month.

According to a statement issued by the Finance Ministry, the USD 500 million sukuk, issued in 2021, carries semi-annual coupon payments, which are made in April and October each year. The Ministry confirmed that the USD 24.6 million coupon payment due this month has been settled in full. The sukuk is set to mature in 2026.

The Ministry said payments are being made consistently and in accordance with the repayment schedule. It added that USD 25 million will be due for the next coupon payment, after which the entire USD 500 million sukuk will be fully repaid by April next year.

Timely payment of debt obligations remains one of the government's key fiscal priorities, the statement noted. The Ministry said the successful payment of the October coupon payment demonstrates the government’s commitment to meeting its fiscal obligations and maintaining the confidence of international investors.

Underscoring the importance the government attaches to responsible debt management, the ministry assured that the administration will continue to implement measures to maintain fiscal stability and debt repayment capacity as it prepares for the final settlement of the sukuk next year.
