President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to fast-track the construction of the vital harbour and jetty development in Mandhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, assuring residents that work on the infrastructure projects, will commence in the near future.
Addressing a community meeting with the people of Mandhoo—a relatively remote island of over 500 inhabitants—President Dr Muizzu emphasised that developing the harbour and jetty to a high standard was a key commitment of his administration.
"The harbour issue and the construction of a jetty are the most urgent needs of the people. I will give special priority to fulfill them," the President stated, confirming the project would start soon and be carried out exactly as the people desire.
Beyond the immediate transportation infrastructure, the President also provided a timeline for significant educational upgrades.
During the meeting, an agreement was formalised to commence the construction of 12 classrooms and a multipurpose hall at Mandhoo School. The project has been awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), with construction scheduled to begin in November 2025 and completion planned before the end of the 2027 academic year.
The President assured the community that his Administration remains committed to delivering the planned projects on schedule and fulfilling all promises made to the island.
In addition to the school development, the President participated in several key ceremonies during his visit, including the groundbreaking of the new Mandhoo Health Centre building, the initiation of works for a new football ground, the groundbreaking of the Mandhoo Fitness and Recreation Centre, and the official inauguration of a new Bank of Maldives (BML) ATM on the island.
The inauguration of ATM service in Mandhoo completed the BML ATM service network in the entire Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, taking the total atoll coverage to 17.
The President also highlighted upcoming initiatives to boost economic activity, including the imminent launch of the RTL ferry service, designed to increase trade and opportunities for local tourism. During the consultation, residents raised concerns over housing shortages and proposed modifying the school to a single-classroom model. President Dr Muizzu committed to bringing these community-raised issues to the attention of the relevant ministries and ensuring their inclusion in next year’s state budget.
