ECM Gazettes Updated Voter Registry for Media Commission Election

The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has published in the Government Gazette, the revised registry of broadcasters and media outlets eligible to vote in the upcoming Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission elections.

The Media and Broadcasting Commission will comprise seven members: four members elected by the media and three appointed by the Parliament. Under the newly enforced Media Commission Act, members of the commission must be appointed by 17 October. Accordingly, the election has now been scheduled for 11 October.

The ECM is currently preparing for the election of members representing the media. The updated registry of broadcasters and media was gazetted following resolution of complaints submitted to the Commission.

With the changes brought to the registry, 18 individuals have been removed from the registry while 64 media outlets and broadcasters have been added to the registry. The updated list is included with the notice published in the Gazette.

The deadline for submitting complaints regarding the registry is 10 p.m. on 2 October. Complaints must be submitted using the designated complaint form, available on the ECM website and at the Commission office. Completed forms can be submitted via email.

Meanwhile, the opportunity to apply for the Parliamentary appointments to the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission is also open.
