The opportunity to apply for the post of Parliament-appointed Member for the Media and Broadcasting Commission of the Maldives is now open.
Under the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Act, the Commission will comprise seven members: four elected by the media and three appointed by Parliament. With the Act now in force, all members must be appointed before 17 October.
The Parliament has opened application for its three appointees. Candidates must be at least 30 years old and either hold a first degree in media or management or have at least five years’ experience in the field. According to the Media Act, editors or owners of media outlets, as well as officials and members of political parties, are ineligible under the Act.
Applications must be submitted by 12:00 pm on October 12. Required documents include the completed application form, criminal record and debt record, copy of the national identity card, curriculum vitae, and educational certificates. Submissions must be made to the Parliament Secretariat within the deadline.
Meanwhile, the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) is preparing to conduct elections for the four media-elected members of the Media Commission. The vote is scheduled for 11 October.
Members of the Media Commission will serve a five-year term, with a maximum limit of two terms.
