In a landmark moment for the engineering community in the Maldives, Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib has assured inclusivity in the celebration of the nation’s Engineers’ Day.
This initiative by the incumbent government recognises the vital contributions of engineers across various sectors in the country’s development, aiming to inspire future generations to pursue careers in engineering.
In a heartfelt video message shared across social media platforms, Minister Muththalib emphasised that the significant role engineers play in both construction and various industries has often gone unrecognised.
"The invaluable services rendered by engineers, particularly in enhancing infrastructure, vehicle repair, and air transport, have been crucial for the welfare of our people," he stated.
This initiative, according to the Minister, is not only a celebration but also a call to action to enhance public awareness and encourage more young individuals to embark on engineering careers.
As part of the national celebration, the government plans to honour distinguished engineers for their contributions starting next year, marking a historic first in acknowledging the achievements of this essential profession.
"We need to foster interest among the public and school students about the various opportunities available in engineering. Engineers can contribute to diverse fields that go beyond traditional boundaries," he explained.
The National Engineers' Day coincides with the inauguration of the Sinamale’ Bridge, hailed as the largest structural development project in the country’s history, further underscoring the relevance of engineering in national progress.
