Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen has said the police uniform symbolises the weight of responsibility and duty that comes with serving the public.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 40th Police Basic Training Course, Commissioner Naveen told graduates that the training’s completion marks the beginning of their professional journey.
"This is the beginning of your professional journey as a police officer. You are now ready to serve across the country. The uniform is not just an outward appearance, it is a badge of duty, trust and responsibility. You must always be sincere to this badge. Remember to uphold integrity, be trustworthy, professional and impartial, and respect human rights and the country’s citizens in your work,” Naveen said.
The Commissioner emphasised that police officers must always act within the law and strive to earn the respect of the public by serving with justice and compassion. He also underscored the importance of punctuality, describing it as a core quality that every police officer must possess. He said the graduating officers must maintain the dignity of the police, and reminded them they are the guardians of society.
The training course was conducted at the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement’s centre in Vaanee, Dhaalu Atoll. The graduation ceremony was attended by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, along with other senior dignitaries.
During the ceremony, awards were presented to outstanding participants. Sergeant Mohamed Arshad was named the Best All-Round Student, and received the Commissioner’s Excellence Award from Commissioner Naveen. The top three students from individual squads were also recognised, and Ainella squad was named Best Squad.
The Police Basic Training Course is designed to strengthen the capacity of new recruits through physical training, operational safety, tactics and instruction in laws and regulations. The 40th training programme saw the participation of 138 students, of which 116 successfully graduated.
