President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has formally submitted a slate of 14 candidates to the Parliament, seeking parliamentary approval for appointments to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) board, where four seats are due to be vacated at the end of the month.
The move comes as the terms of four sitting members are set to expire on 31 August. In his letter to parliament, President Muizzu outlined the urgency of replenishing the board, noting that the nominees had emerged from a pool of applicants responding to a publicly issued call.
Names were submitted in a sequence reflecting presidential preference. The candidates are Mohamed Imthinan Saudhullah, Ismail Hamdhoon, Aishath Shazra, Idhuham Hussain, Umar Ahmed Hussain, Mohamed Ahmed, Mumtaz Abdul Rasheed, Mariyam Juvairiyya, Ahmed Mausoom, Ahmed Nazeeh Mohamed, Husham Waheed, Mariyam Shaffau Shareef, Abdulla Mifraz Nizar, and Ahmed Ali.
Upon receiving the letter, the Secretary General of Parliament read the names aloud on the chamber floor. The list has since been forwarded to the Committee on Economic Affairs for scrutiny, a procedural step preceding any formal appointments. As stipulated by law, final selections to the seven-member MIRA board rest with the president, subject to parliamentary endorsement.
