HPA warns of rise in diarrhoea cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Wednesday urged the public to be cautious as cases of diarrhoea continued to increase across the country.

In an alert issued Wednesday, HPA said health facilities in Malé and the atolls are seeing a spike in cases of diarrhoea.

Noting that diarrhoea can be contracted through consumption of bacteria contaminated water and food, HPA urged everyone to take measures to prevent contracting and spreading of the disease.

Furthermore, the agency urged people with symptoms of diarrhoea to seek medical advice and take plenty of fluids.

Signs and symptoms associated with diarrhea include frequent, loose and watery stools, abdominal cramps and pain, fever, blood in the stool and bloating.
