The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has disbursed over USD 923,160.27 under its medical assistance programme in May alone.
According to NSPA, USD 253,450.36 was spent on medical treatment abroad, while USD 669,461.88 was utilised for treatment within the Maldives.
Among domestic private healthcare providers, ADK Hospital received USD 209,370.92 for 190 inpatient cases, while Treetop Hospital received USD 271,828 for 334 inpatient cases.
NSPA said the largest share of spending at Treetop Hospital was for orthopedic treatments, with USD 79,235.41 spent on 53 cases. The financial assistance for services rendered at Treetop Hospital included:
• Orthopaedic diseases: USD 79,230.43
• Maternity: USD 48,104.64
• Gynaecology: USD 25,936.53
• Gastrointestinal: USD 25,381.65
• Other: USD 22,564.72
• Respiratory: USD 21,248.64
• Ears, nose, and throat (ENT): USD 13,224.16
• Cardiovascular: USD 8,792.75
• Spinal/Nerve diseases: USD 7,038.41
• Paediatrics: USD 6,154.94
According to statistics released by NSPA, the most significant amount from ADK Hospital was spent on treatment for cardiovascular disease. A total of USD 64,518.28 was spent on 14 such cases. The financial assistance for services rendered at ADK Hospital included:

Established on 27 August 2008, NSPA is responsible for administering the National Social Health Insurance Scheme and planning and implementing the programmes outlined under the Social Protection Act. In addition, NSPA is also tasked with carrying out the duties assigned by the President under the authority given to him by law.
