Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim has launched the Project Preparation phase of the Integrated Collaborative Approaches for Sustainable Tourism (iCOAST) Maldives Project.
The project focuses on creating a supportive policy, regulatory environment, and financial tools to encourage governments, businesses, and communities to adopt sustainable tourism. This initiative aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing sustainability across the Maldivian tourism sector by promoting nature-based, net-zero, resilient, zero-waste, and pollution-free practices.
The iCOAST Maldives Project is being implemented by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), with funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). In the inception workshop held Wednesday, more than 50 representatives from, resorts, associations and other stakeholders joined to have a dialogue on the sustainability initiatives involved in the project.
