The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has decided to draft a special regulation to facilitate the conduct of locally approved courses abroad.
Although it is prohibited to conduct courses locally approved abroad without the authorisation of the MQA, there have been reports of breaches.
MQA’s CEO Mariam Fizana Rasheed told PSM News some courses are being conducted abroad without authorisation, warning action against those who conduct courses in this manner.
According to Fizana, MQA is working to facilitate local educational institutions to conduct locally approved courses abroad, adding that a draft regulation has been forwarded to the Attorney General’s office for review.
"This will facilitate the conduct of courses abroad with the authorisation of MQA. Issues will arise if a course is conducted in a questionable foreign university without authorisation. The draft regulation is designed to conduct courses in places accepted by the MQA,” she explained.
Fizana also highlighted the increase in cases of forged educational certificates, adding that so far this year, five cases of forged certificates have been reported to the police, while nine such cases were reported last year.
Fizana expressed concern over the delay in police investigations into such cases.
