The Maldives is actively working to address challenges of sustainable development and economic resilience, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Ahmed Nazim has said. Nazim made the statement while speaking at the 6th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum.
Speaking at the forum, held under the theme “Working Together for Common Development”, the Deputy Speaker highlighted five key priorities for regional development. These include transport and communications, green economic development, strong economic ties, human development and people-to-people connectivity.
Nazim noted that the Maldives, being a small island nation, is working towards sustainable development and facing economic challenges. The Maldives believes it should collaborate with China and other neighboring countries to ensure open, inclusive and sustainable development, he added.
Noting China's achievements in development, Deputy Speaker Nazim said China's economic reforms, infrastructural development and innovation sector investments are an example that any country can adapt according to their unique circumstances.
Nazim concluded his speech by stating that development is not simply a strategy but a promise for the country. It is a commitment to ensure that no one is left behind as the nation moves forward, he said.
