The ‘Maldives Tuna Race’, an event organised by the Maldivian Fishermen’s Lobby has been opened to all pole-and-line fishermen in the country.
The race will be held from 5 to 6 December to celebrate the anniversary of the Fishermen’s Lobby and the Fishermen's Day. The Fishermen's Lobby is hoping to make this annual event with special prizes up for grabs.
The 24-hour race is designed to foster friendship and unity among local fishermen and to inspire young fishermen, especially in pole-and-line fishing.
The Lobby said large cash prizes will be offered to the winners of the race to encourage wider participation.
The prizes on offer range from USD 6,485 for the winner, USD 3,243 for the runner up and USD 1,621 for the second runner up. The winners will be determined by the weight of their catch within the designated time frame.
The deadline for registration for the ”Maldives Tuna Race 2025′′ will expire at 4:00 pm on 10 July.
Fishing vessels interested in competing, can submit the duly completed form to the Lobby office or through its official email.
However, the opportunity to participate in the race will only be open to fishing vessels registered in the National Fishermen's Register along with a valid fishing license.
