The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Ismail Naveen, has pledged to uphold integrity and strengthen the Maldives Police Service (MPS). President Dr Mohamed Muizzu selected Naveen from a shortlist of three candidates to lead the nation's law enforcement agency, officially appointing him as commissioner. Prior to this, Naveen served as the deputy commissioner of police before assuming his new role on 10 June.
Naveen's appointment follows the resignation and retirement of former Commissioner Ali Shujau in April, marking a significant shift in the leadership of the MPS. Acknowledging the congratulatory messages received upon his appointment, Naveen highlighted the importance of public support in shaping his leadership. He stressed that collaboration across different sectors of society would be essential in fulfilling his responsibilities, reaffirming his commitment to serving with determination and ethical responsibility.
With nearly three decades in law enforcement, Naveen brings extensive experience to his new role. Since joining the police service on 7 July 1994, he has held leadership positions spanning operational, investigative, and administrative divisions. Before his promotion to deputy commissioner of police, he led the Corporate Services Directorate, overseeing critical internal functions.
