The second phase of Ungoofaaru Road Development Project in Raa Atoll has reached completion.
The project is being implemented by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Limited (MTCC).
According to MTCC, 8,626.55 square metres of tarred road surface have been developed under the project. While 2,537.75 square metres of pavement have been constructed, service lines have also been installed. In addition, road signs have been installed and road crossings have been painted, and a drainage system has been installed as part of the project.
Ungoofaaru has a population of about 2,500 residents, most of whom work in government offices and companies. The island services as a key hub for people from neighbouring islands who visit the island for administrative, healthcare and business purposes.
According to MTCC, with the completion of the second phase of the Ungoofaaru road development project, the issues of dust during the dry season and mud during the wet season will be eliminated. It will also imrpove safety and mobility for both pedestrians and vehicles, and help maintain cleaner roads.
The first phase of Ungoofaaru road development project was completed in 2021.
