The opportunity to participate in a prestigious Quran competition held in Makkah, Saudi Arabia has been extended to Maldivians.
The King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorisation, Recitation and Interpretation of the Holy Quran is a global religious competition organised by the General Secretariat of the Holy Quran Competition under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance of Saudi Arabia. Contestants from all over the world participate in this competition.
According to the National Centre for the Holy Quran, two participants form the Maldives have the opportunity to participate in the competition under two categories. The first category is the memorisation of the entire Holy Quran, with accurate recitation and intonation. The second category is the memorisation of 15 consecutive Jus’ (parts) of the Quran in order, with accurate recitation and intonation.
To participate in the competition, applicants must:
1- Be male
2- Be a citizen of the Maldives
3- Be under the age of 25 based on the Hijri calendar
4- Not be a widely known reciter within the Maldives
5- Not have previously participated in the competition
For the full memorisation category, applicants must hold a certificate of Quran memorisation and demonstrate proper Tajweed.
The National Centre for the Holy Quran will assess all participants and select one participant for each category. If a visually impaired individual, or a person with special needs, or a child under the age of 17 is selected to participate in the competition, the organisers will arrange for a parent to accompany them.
Applications must be submitted to the National Centre for the Holy Quran by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, 11 June.
