Former Police Commissioner Ali Shujau Retires, Closing an 18-Year Chapter in Law Enforcement

Ali Shujau, the former commissioner of police, has formally retired from the Maldives Police Service (MPS), concluding an 18-year tenure in law enforcement. His retirement was marked by a ceremony at Iskandhar Building, attended by senior officials, police executives, and family members.

Among those present were Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, Deputy Commissioners of Police Ismail Naveen and Faruhad Fikuree, as well as commissioned officers and members of Shujau's family.

Addressing attendees, Shujau expressed gratitude to colleagues and mentors who had supported him throughout his career. He spoke of the collective efforts that shaped the institution's progress, acknowledging the dedication of those who worked alongside him.

To honour his service, Shujau received a ceremonial plaque and a retirement card. The plaque, reserved for commissioners who retire with distinction, incorporates the colours and medals he earned, elements from his commissioner of police uniform, and his police identity card. The retirement card, issued to all honourably retired officers, serves as official identification, granting access to police premises when necessary.

Shujau's career with the MPS began in September 2006, following eight years in the education sector. He was promoted to a commissioned rank in 2008 and went on to hold key roles in police training, operations, intelligence, and investigations. His leadership extended to management positions within the force, and he represented the country and police service in professional forums at both national and international levels.

His appointment as commissioner of police came on 24 December 2023. After serving in the role for four months, he resigned on 26 April. His retirement marks the conclusion of a distinguished career in law enforcement, leaving behind a legacy of service and leadership.
